The SAIP Biophysics Initiative offers funding to South African students and researchers for conference attendance as well as for covering costs related to the use of specialised equipment. 

Scientific conferences (or other meetings)

Financial support will be provided to a maximum of R15 000 per annum per candidate and may include any expenses related to the conference, i.e., travelling costs, registration and accommodation. The scope of the conference should include a strong biophysics component. 

Required documentation: 

o   Description of the scope of the meeting

o   Motivation of the relevance of the meeting for biophysics

o   Proof of acceptance of contribution

o   Abstract of presentation

o   Clarification in the case of only attending the meeting without giving a contribution

o   Budget

o   In the case of a student: letter of motivation from supervisor

Specialised equipment or measurements

Financial support will be provided to a maximum of R15 000 per annum per candidate and may include any expenses necessary to use the equipment, i.e., travelling costs, renting costs, and accommodation. Only projects in biophysics will be considered.

Required documentation: 

o   Description of project and methodology

o   Reason for measurement

o   Budget

o   Proof of application for NRF mobility grant and outcome of decision

o   In the case of a student: letter of motivation from supervisor

You are required to submit a report on your visit within 30 days after your trip. Failure to do this may result in the obligation to refund the money paid out to you by the Biophysics Initiative.
